30 Minutes of Live & Direct – MYNC – Volume 1

http://www.cr2records.co.uk

===========

MYNC are an electronic dance act led by front man and owner of Cr2 Records, Mark Brown. With a career that started back in the mid nineties, MYNC have been at the forefront of leading electronic dance music with DJ Sets around the world at clubs such as Ministry of Sound (London), Home (Sydney), Pacha (New York), Space (Miami), Sanctuary (Dubai) and Ibiza’s greatest super-clubs such as Space and Pacha. Voted in the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ’s, and privileged to have been asked to mix such highly rated compilations such as Ministry of Sound Sessions and Live & Direct – Space Ibiza, it is easy to see that MYNC are one of the most highly rated dance acts around.
In the studio, MYNC are also a force to be reckoned with. Most recently they achieved Number 1 club chart positions with their remake of the classic Donna Summer record ‘I Feel Love’, which was co-produced alongside the Rhythm Masters and featured the vocal talents of Atlantic Records rising star, Wynter Gordon. Before that they enjoyed massive club success with another co-produced track titled ‘Boogers’ where they worked alongside long standing friends Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero & Jose Nunez. Remixes for Kylie, Faithless, Chuckie can also be added to that list of production credits. You’ll find their music being spun by the world’s greatest DJ’s – Pete Tong, Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Chuckie and Tiesto.
2010 saw MYNC rise to the next level internationally after they signed exclusively to Cr2 Records Artist Management (CR2:AM), for DJ Bookings or remix enquiries please contact sophie@cr2records.co.uk

Cr2 records was set up in July 2004 by former Credence Records head honcho & one half of M.Y.N.C Project Mark Brown.

In itÂ’s first year Cr2 managed to muscle its way to the top of the hugely competitive house music market by releasing consistently high quality house music. With releases from the likes of Eric Prydz & Steve Angello, 100% & Danny Howells all going into the UK top 40 singles chart, its easy to see why Cr2 has forged a reputation as being one of the best independent house labels in the world, and one of the only labels with the ability to challenge the majors!

Other outstanding releases on the label in 2004/05 came from the likes of Skylark ‘Thats More Like It’, Anthony Acid ‘Sweat’, Lee Cabrera ‘Voodoo Love’, Steve Mac & Steve Smith ‘Loving You More’, Exhibit A ‘G Minor’, Spencer Parker ‘Open Your Eyes’ & Bush II Bush ‘The Piano Track’. All were massive in clubland, with the label receiving support from virtually every DJ under the sun, from Sasha, Pete Tong, Nick Fanciulli, Sander Kleinenberg, John Digweed, Roger Sanchez, Tom Stephan, Paul Woolford, Hernan Cattaneo, Tom Middleton, Erick Morillo, Steve Lawler, Satoshi Tommiie, X-Press 2 & many more!

Cr2 further cemented their place as a force to be reckoned with when they launched their own compilation brand United Nations Of House to critical acclaim. The compilation had a unique concept whereby tracks from well known artists from around the world such as Danny Howells, Skylark, Tiefschwarz & Sander Kleinenberg, sat along side tracks from virtual unknowns from all corners of the globe. 17 countries were represented, including Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Albania, as well as more established countries on the house music map like UK, Holland, Gemany, USA, Italy and many more.

2006 got off to a great start with the signing of The Egg Walking Away, fusing electronic hooks with indie guitars, the song made popular by the Citroen car advert (and ice skating robot car) was to become one of the biggest (alongside another from Cr2!) commercial singles of the year! The track was hammered by literally every house and electro DJ under the Sun and definitely spearheaded what was to be the year of ‘Electro-House. The track crossed over to the mainstream with the addition of a vocal from a David Guetta record and Love Dont Let Me Go (Walking Away) went on to reach Number 3 in the UK charts in August. Another two huge records that were also in every DJs set throughout Ibiza that Summer were The Rub’ by Kurd Maverick, and The Rendition by Dave Robertson & Jon Gurd.
But it is testament to Mark BrownÂ’s A&R skills that he continued to seek for the next big hit and he found just that! Fedde Le Grand was an unknown DJ from The Netherlands for most people, until he produced Put Your Hands Up For Detroit which charted at Number 1 in the UK charts in October of 2006, and catapulted Fedde to Worldwide superstar status as both a producer and DJ.

Cr2 were also proud to release the first solo artist album from another of the scenes rising stars of the Underground – Switzerlands Danny Freakazoid. Cr2 was now firmly establishing itself as a leading label in the World dance scene.

In January 2007 Cr2 launched sub label Cr2 Digital to cater for the more underground electronic sound that was blossoming within the scene. The string of big tune releases did not stop either with big hits coming from Hook N Sling The Bump, and no less than 3 records in Pete Tong’s Essential Selection Show including Kurd Maverick Lets Work and The Essential New Tune for Arno Cost & Arias ‘Magenta’.

Looking to spread their sound as global as possible, Cr2 held their first Miami WMC Party at the exclusive Mokai Club in March, and also began the first of several club dates at Ministry of Sound in London. With this side of the business now beginning to evolve and blossom, Cr2 Live & Direct was born!

Live & Direct was chosen as the brand name to accompany all our club nights and events, and to complement this a new CD compilation was started Cr2 Live & Direct Presents. The concept being to bring together some of the finest artists together on one CD, both showcasing their own styles and sound as a DJ and also coming together to produce an exclusive track for the album which will be featured on the bonus 3rd Unmixed Disc. The series kicked off with Dirty South & Kurd Maverick which was released in August 2007, and was followed by one of America’s favourite but perhaps slightly lesser know heroes Oscar G, Live from Space Miami one of the greatest Nightclubs in the World.

The Summer was of course filled with more hits the highlights being Fedde Le Grand v Funkerman Wheels In Motion, Spektrum Kinda New, Eddie Thoneick Feat. Berget Lewis Deeper Love, Federico Franchi Cream and DJ Jeroenski Back Once AgainÂ’.

Cr2 also welcomed the signing of the MURK Records catalogue (Miamis Oscar G & Ralph Falcon), with the first release being the mighty Reach For MeÂ’.
It is without question down to the A&R vision and drive that Cr2 has forged itself into such a highly respected place in the market and early to recognize the shift occurring within the musical scene away from the Electro sound and towards a more stripped down techy sound, Cr2 were quick to pick up on two of the hottest tracks around (and anthems of IbizaÂ’s coolest Minimal hotspot, DC10) Sudoko Kid by Ito & Star, and Alcoolic by Popof.

It is any wonder that Mark Brown had time to do anything else with such a relentless release schedule and the pressure to keep signing and delivering such monster club hits (as well as his International DJ Schedule) – but 2007 was the year that he focused hard on developing his own studio production skills. Under the M.Y.N.C Project moniker along with long standing studio/DJ partner Nick Corelli they released Ride The Storm alongside Carl Kennedy, and Everybody Freakin alongside Dirty South. Both were huge in club land.
But it was time for Mark to take the next step and begin to grow and develop as a solo artist in his own right. He collaborated with Steve Mac to release Bells of Brighton in December, but something big for Mark and Cr2 was just around the corner!

The end of 2007 was a difficult time for Cr2 along with many other dance music record labels after the sad, and sudden closure of Amato Distribution. This was yet another signal that the Digital Age in music was well and truly and truly now upon us, and that sales of the beloved 12 vinyl were on a steep decline. The introduction of Social Networking sites such as Myspace & Facebook, increasing popularity of Digital download sites such as Itunes and Beatport meant that the music scene as a whole and the way new music is both sold and marketed had to keep up with the fast paced changes that were occurring.

So, 2008  and what better way than to start the year with a Number 11 UK hit! Thats right, Mark Brown narrowly missed out on the Top 10 with his debut solo single The Journey Continues, which featured a sample from the hugely popular TV Advertising campaign run by Lloyds TSB throughout 2007, and also featured the vocal talents of Saint Etienne singer Sarah Cracknell. The success of the record again highlighting that Cr2 have the ability to deliver crossover hits into the mainstream as well as keeping their credibility amongst the most cutting edge clubs across the World.

The Live & Direct brand also continued to build nicely, with events in Spain, USA, Colombia, UK and the release of Cr2’s first Miami CD Compilation.

The launch of the brand new Cr2 website early in the year was another highlight, and the online shop selling vinyl, CDÂ’s and MP3 downloads meant that fans of Cr2 all over the World now had a place where they could find out and purchase everything to do with Cr2!

Cr2 has always been about quality house music, but has also always embraced good dance music no matter what genre. This was highlighted with the release of the classic Old Skool House production by Carl Cox I Want You (Forever), which was remixed by Brazils  / The World’s finest Drum and Bass DJ, DJ Marky.

The Summer saw a weekly residency every Friday daytime at the legendary Cafe Mambo, and appearances at Super club Pacha for Mark Brown. Mark also toured the USA and Australia alongside Micky Slim to promote their Cr2 Live & Direct mix compilation.

The end of 2008 will be remembered in history for the beginning of one of the worst economic downturns ever experienced, and the Music Industry unfortunately did not escape unharmed. In fact it hit the industry hard, with major retailers feeling the pinch and being forced to close. And no less than 12 months after Amato Distribution was forced into Administration, so was the largest remaining independent Music Retailer, Pinnacle, forced into the same fate. This was another unfortunate obstacle for Cr2 to have to deal with, with no one to distribute their physical product to stores over the busiest sales period of the year. Fortunately, Cr2 had worked hard throughout the year to establish themselves as a brand that sold well digitally, and through their successful cross-over albums on Itunes, and exclusive DJ albums on more specialist download stores they were able to maintain their position as one of the leading labels.

So, 2009 is already well under way and Cr2 have already released a whole host of digital albums including ‘Basslines The Future Sound Of Bass, the second installment of their Kings Of The Underground compilation series, and a Best Of French House compilation in conjunction with one of Frances leading labels, Serial Records.

2009 marks two momentous occasions for the label, their 5th Anniversary and their 100th Release! The honours for the big 100 fittingly go to Mark Brown, who releases a techno monster entitled The Fly, alongside long time friend and ex-Rhythm Master, Steve Mac. The release has garnered support from the worlds biggest DJs Steve Lawler, Groove Armada, Ritchie Hawtin and Carl Cox and shows that Cr2 have no intention of resting on their laurels, with the next 100 already coming thick and fast! The 5th anniversary will be celebrated with various events across the world featuring artists from the label kicking off at the 2009 Miami WMC.

About Scott & Payne

==========

Ric Scott has worked behind the scenes in the music business for over 18 years helping to produce some of the world’s best trance and dance music. Working with Producers such as Paul Gotel and Hemstock & Jennings, he has remixed artists such as Ian Van Dahl, Dario G, Joshua Ryan, Neo & Farina, Watergate, Lionel Richie, Lady Gaga, Moogwai, Upper Level and Paul Van Dyk to name a few…
Ric started DJing at the age of 19..by 23 he was touring Greece and Spain. On his return to the U.K. he made several guest appearances at the multi award winning Gold ‘n’ Delicious night in Stoke-On-Trent before going on to play clubs around the country. He then settled down with a residency in his home town of Derby. In 2000 he hung up his headphones to concentrate more on the production side of the business, but in 2007 he was asked to guest at a night so he took up the offer where he made regular appearances until 2010 when the venue closed. Ric added: ‘I still get the same buzz when I get behind the decks whether it’s 300 or 30,000 people in front of me’.

Now you can find him in the Studio working on different projects, productions and remixes.
His latest remix was the Tenth Anniversary remix package of Hemstock & Jennings’ – Mirage (Of Hope) including mixes by Ric Scott, Sied Van Riel , Ian Betts, Harry Hard, DJ Choose and quite a few more..

Dave Payne: Influenced by the likes of Pete Tong, Danny Rampling, Erick Morillo and Judge Jules, Dave’s sound is definitely one to fill the dance floors with big beats and euphoric melodies. Similar to his peers, he likes to experiment across the house genre, playing a mix of house, progressive and tech-house, using big vocals and epic synths to get those hands in the air.

As a graduate of the Ministry of Sound Academy, Dave has perfected his DJing skills and presence behind the decks. The big hitters at Ministry certainly noticed something special, and invited him back earlier this year to feature on the line-up alongside Sharam, Tom Middleton and Alex Kenji at the world-famous club night Global Underground.
In October 2010 Dave took centre-stage on the Reloop DJ Stand at BPM, Europe’s biggest event dedicated to DJs, electronic music production and club culture. Since then he’s played along side the Cut-Up Boys and Kate Lawler, rocking main room crowds in the UK’s most infamous nightclubs including ‘The EGG’ in London.

As Scott & Payne – the pair produce uplifting summer house and down and dirty Electro house. Their latest signing ‘Sunrise’ feat: Uli Holubecka to Colorful Recordings was released March 21st.
Their debut track ‘The Chase’ was released in October 2010.
